What It's Really Like Building a Baby Brand From the Ground Up
Share
From the outside, starting a business can look exciting.
A good idea.
A beautiful logo.
A website.
Some products.
And suddenly you're running a brand.
The reality?
It's a little less glamorous - and a whole lot more rewarding.
At Sienni (formerly Sili Bibs), we've learned that building a baby brand isn't just about creating products.
It's about solving everyday problems for families, learning as you go, and showing up every single day - even when nobody sees the work happening behind the scenes.
It Started With Everyday Frustration
Like many small businesses, Sienni didn't begin with a grand business plan.
It started around the dinner table.
Like so many parents, we found ourselves asking the same questions after almost every meal.
Why are bibs either great at catching food or great at protecting clothing - but rarely both?
Why do some mealtime products look beautiful but aren't practical?
Why is it so hard to find thoughtfully designed products made for real family life?
Those everyday frustrations became the foundation of everything we've created since.
Designing Products We'd Actually Use
Our goal was never to reinvent parenting.
We simply wanted to make one part of it a little easier.
That's how our signature hybrid bib came to life.
By combining waterproof sleeves with a soft, food-grade silicone catch pocket, we created something that offers both coverage and practicality in one design.
As our business grew, so did our vision.
Today, our collection also includes premium stainless steel baby tableware - designed for families looking for durable, thoughtfully made, low-tox mealtime essentials that grow with their children.
Every product starts the same way:
"Would this genuinely make our own mealtimes easier?"
If the answer isn't yes, we keep refining it.
You Wear Every Hat
When you're building a small business, there isn't a separate team for everything.
One day you're reviewing product samples.
The next you're answering customer emails.
Packing orders.
Creating social media content.
Updating your website.
Organising photos.
Planning the next collection.
Then doing it all again tomorrow.
It's busy.
It's challenging.
And it's incredibly rewarding.
You Never Stop Questioning Yourself
One thing we didn't expect?
How often we'd second-guess ourselves.
Even when a product feels finished, the questions continue.
Will parents love it?
Have we made it as practical as possible?
Are we genuinely solving a problem?
The baby industry is built on trust.
Parents invite your products into some of the most important everyday moments of family life, and that's something we never take lightly.
The Small Wins Mean Everything
People often imagine success as a huge milestone.
The reality is that it usually arrives in much smaller moments.
The first order.
The first returning customer.
A review from a parent saying, "This made mealtime so much easier."
Seeing one of our products sitting on a highchair in someone's home.
Those moments never get old.
Because they're a reminder that something you created is becoming part of another family's daily routine.
Progress Over Perfection
One of the biggest lessons we've learned is that perfection isn't the goal.
Listening is.
Our products continue to evolve through real feedback from real families.
Small improvements.
Tiny refinements.
Thoughtful changes.
The best ideas don't always happen in a meeting room.
Sometimes they happen while cleaning yoghurt off a highchair.
Building With Real Families in Mind
Every decision we make comes back to the same question:
Will this make everyday life a little easier?
Not just in beautifully styled photos.
But during breakfast before childcare.
At dinner after a long day.
During café lunches.
While travelling.
During those wonderfully messy first experiences with food.
That's the version of family life we design for.
Because that's real life.
Looking Back - and Looking Ahead
When we first started, we thought we were creating baby bibs.
What we've realised is that we're creating products that become part of family memories.
The messy breakfasts.
The first tastes.
The proud smiles after self-feeding.
The little everyday moments that don't seem significant at the time - but somehow become the ones you remember most.
We're incredibly grateful to every family that has supported us, shared our products, recommended us to a friend or trusted us to be part of their mealtime journey.
You're helping us build something we truly believe in.
And we're only just getting started.
